Moonlight
A boy grows into a man across three chapters in Miami, under a mother lost to addiction and a self he cannot yet claim.
Barry Jenkins tells the life of Chiron in three movements, as a bullied child, a hunted teenager, and a hardened adult, under a mother lost to crack and in the brief shelter of a drug dealer who becomes a father figure.
It is a study of identity and desire formed under shame, of tenderness offered and refused, and of the self a person is permitted to become. Adapted from Tarell Alvin McCraney's play. Winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture.
