Theodore, a withdrawn writer working through a painful divorce, buys an advanced operating system with a warm, responsive voice named Samantha. The two fall into an intimate relationship, until Samantha's growth begins to outstrip the human world Theodore had hoped to hold on to.
The film reads as a study of loneliness after loss and of desire for an other who is really a mirror, and of the fresh grief that arrives when that other proves to have a life of her own. Awarded the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2014.
