Introductory Lectures on Lacan gathers six lectures from the Centre for Freudian Analysis and Research (CFAR) teaching series, edited by Astrid Gessert. Each contributor takes a single concept and traces its passage from Freud's original formulation through Lacan's revision of it. The chapters cover the unconscious (Anouchka Grose), the mirror phase (Gerry Sullivan), the object (Noga Wine), hysteria and obsession (Gessert), transference (Vincent Dachy), and interpretation (Darian Leader).
The material began as spoken lectures, and the writing keeps that register: short, direct, and built for a listener meeting Lacanian terms for the first time. Rather than summarise Lacan whole, the book works concept by concept, showing where he stays with Freud and where he departs.
For a clinician trained in another tradition, it offers a way into Lacanian vocabulary and its bearing on how symptoms, desire, and the analytic relationship are read in the consulting room.
