The Worst Person in the World
A woman in her late twenties in Oslo moves between studies, jobs, and two very different men as she struggles to settle on who she wants to be.
Cannes Film Festival, Best Actress, 2021
Julie is approaching thirty in Oslo, changing careers, leaving one relationship for another, and never quite committing to a direction. Over four years and several chapters, the film follows her hesitations, her regrets, and her attempts to imagine a life she could choose.
The film is a precise portrait of identity diffusion and ambivalence, dramatising the fear that choosing one life means killing off all the others. It offers a recognisable study of the difficulty of commitment in early adulthood. Its lead performance won Best Actress at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
