On the Adamant

The Adamant is a floating day centre on the river in Paris where adults with psychiatric conditions come to paint, make music, run a small cafe, and meet with the staff who care for them. The documentary observes their days with patience and without commentary.

The film shows the therapeutic encounter and creative work functioning as a form of holding, a place structured enough to steady people and open enough to let them be themselves. It is a humane resource on care, community, and creativity in mental health. It won the Golden Bear at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival.
