Anatomy of a Fall

A writer is found dead below the window of the family's isolated chalet, and his wife, also a writer, goes on trial accused of killing him. The proceedings dredge up the couple's resentments and rivalries, while their partially sighted young son, the only other person present, has to piece together an account of his parents he can live with.

The film opens a marriage to forensic view and shows a child constructing a bearable version of the truth in the absence of certainty. It gives a clinician a rich study of memory, blame, and how a family's private story is made and remade. It won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film in 2024.
