International Dictionary of Psychoanalysis
A three-volume English reference with about 1,600 entries on concepts, figures and movements.
The International Dictionary of Psychoanalysis gathers signed entries from psychoanalysts and scholars across many countries into a single alphabetical reference, running A to Z across three volumes. Entries define theoretical and clinical concepts, trace the lives and contributions of analysts and their principal works, and record the events, controversies and institutions that shaped the discipline.
Alongside individual terms, longer articles set out the history of psychoanalysis in particular countries and regions, so readers can follow how ideas travelled and took local form. Cross-references connect related entries, and each carries its own bibliography; a Freudian bibliography, a general bibliography and indexes close the set.
Alain de Mijolla edited the English edition (2005), an expanded version of the French Dictionnaire international de la psychanalyse (2002). For a clinician or scholar it offers a way to check a term's meaning, place a figure within a tradition, or find sources for further reading.
