He integrates decades of science and wisdom about the nature of our mind and optimal well-being into an easy-to-read personal journey.
Aware sets out Daniel J. Siegel's Wheel of Awareness, a guided meditation built as a visual metaphor: a hub of knowing awareness ringed by the sensory inputs, bodily signals, mental activities, and relational connections a practitioner can attend to in turn. Siegel walks through the practice step by step, then grounds it in his account of the mind as an embodied and relational process that regulates the flow of energy and information. He draws on attention research and interpersonal neurobiology to argue that where attention is directed, neural firing and connection follow, so training the hub strengthens integration across the brain and body.
For a clinician working with attention and self-regulation, the book supplies both a repeatable protocol and its rationale. Siegel maps how differentiating the elements on the rim, then linking them, cultivates a stable, flexible awareness that a practitioner can return to under stress. Transcripts of the practice, common obstacles, and variations for shorter sessions are included.
